
Dan Heimowitz is Director of RBC Municipal Department’s Rating and Credit Strategies. Dan rejoined RBC in 2023 after having previously served as Managing Director of RBC’s Municipal Department Large Issuer investment banking group from 2008 to 2017. In 2018 Dan left RBC to start-up a firm utilizing credit views, peer sourced from institutional investors, to complement and enhance traditional credit ratings. Dan’s forty-five-plus-year Public Finance career has been in credit ratings and investment banking, having started at Moody’s Investors Service, where he spent 19 years, including as head of Moody’s Public Finance Ratings Group from 1990 to 1996.
He has over 21 years of public finance investment banking experience at Lehman Brothers, and RBC, with a continuing focus on municipal issuer credit and rating strategies and the development of innovative credit structures, serving as lead banker on over $55 billion of senior managed transactions including many inaugural issuances for some of the largest US municipal issuers. Throughout his career, he has been an active municipal market participant including past President of the Municipal Forum of New York, past President of The Society of Municipal Analysts, and Career Achievement Award recipient of The National Federation of Municipal Analysts. From 2012 to 2014 served on the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) and was MSRB’s Chairman in 2014.
From 2019 until 2023 served as the investor recommended director of Puerto Rico Sales Tax Financing Corporation (COFINA). He holds a BA from Clark University and an MA in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He holds FINRA SIE, Series 7, 24, 52, 53, 63 and 79 licenses.
