Executive Vice President and Head of Insurance and Asset Owners, North America, State Street

Michael Knowling is executive vice president and head of Insurance and Asset Owners, North America at State Street. In his role, Michael is primarily responsible for the creation and execution of State Street’s strategy around the Insurance and the Asset Owners segments in North America. In collaboration with Global Sales, business lines and product organizations, he also oversees the relationship management teams to help differentiate our breadth of capabilities and drive growth and expansion across Investment Services, State Street Alpha SM , State Street DigitalSM and State Street Global Markets.

Previously, he was head of the Global Clients Division, and was responsible for managing our largest and most complex clients around the world. In this capacity, he managed a team of seasoned relationship executives, relationship managers and business analysts to support our clients to execute their business strategy.

Partnering with CEOs and CIOs of top tier firms across the globe, Michael ensures we deliver a “One State Street” experience for our clients to leverage the full breadth of our capabilities.

Michael has more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry, specializing in relationship management of complex, global clients. He joined State Street from Prudential Financial, where he was the head of Client Relations and Business Development within Prudential Retirement.

Michael has been an active member in the community, having served as a mentor with the Black Leadership Forum and formerly was the executive sponsor for the Hispanic Heritage Network at Prudential Retirement. In addition, he also served on the Board of the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) and the Board for Global Portfolio Strategies, Inc. In 2008, 2020 and 2022, Michael was named as one of the “Top 100 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America” in Savoy Magazine.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and management from Eastern Connecticut State University and holds FINRA Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.
